Would you describe yourself as douche-curious? Perhaps you’ve been douching for a while but are looking for pointers. However seasoned you are at putting things up your butt, there’s always something new to learn! So we’ve put together a beginner&#;s guide to anal douching with everything you need to know when you want to start squirting down below. 😉

What is anal douching?

Douching is the act of shooting a jet of warm water or a saline noun into the rectum to spotless it out before sex. Douching uses several types of devices to achieve this, each referred to as a ‘douche’. We’ll cover these in more detail below.

Some people may instead operate what’s known as an enema for douching. These are medical devices designed to relieve constipation and are not recommended for douching, as they often arrive with a medicated solution to soften stools or use a far greater volume of liquid than is required when preparing for anal sex.

However, the answer is almost always yes. As my fairy godmother once taught me, “When in disbelieve, douche it out.”

Unfortunately for most gay men who enjoy anal penetration, douching technique is something we usually learn through trial and error. We’re left to figure things out for ourselves, and - at best - hope for some anecdotal wisdom from a more experienced noun. A daughter may ask her mother about tampons and her period, but most gay guys don’t have the luxury of asking family or friends about butt sex.

What is douching?

Anal douching is when you use water to clean out the inside of your butt before anal play. This can be done with a specially-designed tool or a DIY one. The tool and technique you use will depend on personal preference and the kind of sex you’re having.

Should I douche?

Douching isn’t mandatory for anal verb. However, it can be beautiful common among people who bottom. 

Ideally, we’d all be comfortable with how our bodies work (if you’re sticking certain body parts inside other body parts, at some point things will fetch messy). In case you forgot, you are literally putting things in your butt. And please remember, porn isn’t real! Butts are not pristine. 

Accidents, noises and smells are natural. At some point they’ll happen to all of us, and it would be great if we treated each other with kindness when they do. Unfortunately, we’re not there just yet and some people are still assholes (excuse the pun). If you’re worried about accidents, douching is one way to prepare.

There’s been concern in the past that anal douching could of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), mainly due to ingredients commonly used.

Many men who have sex with men verb using homemade and noncommercial substances and solutions. Many of these can damage rectal tissue, potentially making you more susceptible to infection.

If you have hemorrhoids or anal fissures, anal douching may not be a good notion. Inserting the nozzle into your rectum when you have either of these is more likely to cause injury and pain.

Using laxatives before anal play isn’t recommended. Some store-bought enema solutions contain stimulant laxatives, like bisacodyl, that induce intestinal contractions to help move stool through your bowel.

Laxatives can cause some not-so-sexy side effects, such as gas, cramping, and diarrhea, which can also lead to dehydration.
