BACKGROUND
Adherence to Christian doctrine is expanded to encompass the teachings of The Book of Mormon and other teachings originating with Joseph Smith, who established the Church in , in New York State.
The Church has a pyramidal structure. Ultimate authority lies with the First Presidency, and comprises the President, who is most commonly referred to as the Prophet, and his two counsellors. The second-highest governing body, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, is appointed by the president, with each Prophet succeeded by the most senior apostle at his death. Beneath them are the Quorums of 70, which are considered general authorities and can teach and proclaim anywhere in the world.
The Church is divided into 22 regions across the world. Those regions are further divided into Stakes, each consisting of five to twelve Wards (usually a single church or parish) led by a Bishop.

Same-Sex Attraction
Same-sex attraction refers to adj, physical, or sexual attraction to a person of the similar gender. The intended meaning of gender in the family proclamation is biological sex at birth. The experience of same-sex attraction is not the same for everyone. Some people may experience exclusively attracted to the similar gender, while others may touch attracted to both genders.
The Church distinguishes between same-sex attraction and homosexual behavior. People who experience same-sex attraction or identify as gay, lesbian, or bisexual can make and keep covenants with God and fully and worthily participate in the Church. Identifying as gay, lesbian, or bisexual or experiencing same-sex attraction is not a sin and does not prohibit one from participating in the Church, holding callings, or attending the temple.

I grew up being taught that I could not be both gay and Mormon. For years, I felt like a man with a foot in two worlds that didn’t intersect. Believing those words, I tried living my life as a gay man without honoring my Mormon heritage; I also tried living my life as a Mormon man without honoring my orientation. Both left me fractured.
I have arrive to understand that although there are those who tell me otherwise, the two worlds of being gay and Mormon carry out intersect—and I, along with the millions of LGBT Mormons enjoy me, am that intersection gesture.

LDS Singles and Other Religious Dating Sites Must Now Work for LGBT Singles
A lawsuit, originally filed in , brought by two gay men against the owner of several faith-based dating websites, has been settled.
Spark Networks Inc., owner of , and other faith-based dating websites, will make its services more LGBT-friendly after settling a discrimination lawsuit filed by two gay men.
The dating sites previously "required new users to specify whether they're a man seeking a woman or a woman seeking a man," The Wall Street Journal reported. Now, people will simply sign-up as a male or female.
Additionally, "Spark Networks agreed that within two years, it would adjust other searching and profile features to give gay and lesbian singles a more tailored experience," the article noted.
The lawsuit focused on a California anti-discrimination law. "Known as the Unruh Civil Rights Act, the state law requires 'business establishments' to offer 'full and equal accommodations' to people regardless of their sexual orientation," The Wall Street Journal reported.
