Lil Nas X: ‘I prayed that being gay was just a phase’
US rapper Lil Nas X has said that when he was younger he hoped being gay was just "a phase".
In an interview with CBS, the Old Town Road hitmaker says he knew as a teenager that he was gay and would "would just pray and pray" that his sexuality "would go away".
In a teaser clip that aired on Monday, the rapper discusses his fight with his sexuality.
But he acknowledges that his fame has made it easier for him to come out.
"Me being in this position, it's easy for me."
"But some little boy 10 miles from here, it's not going to be good for him."

Lil Nas X said he was terrified when he publicly came out in because of his upbringing and the homophobia he said he saw in the music industry.
The "Industry Baby" singer recently chatted with Out magazine and recalled the self-hatred he internalized when growing up in the South.
"Growing up in the Atlanta area, I [saw] a lot of microaggressions towards homosexuality," Lil Nas X explained. The Grammy winner said that because of his experiences, he began "pushing that part of myself in more and more, almost convincing myself that it’s not even actually there."
The year-old said the rap genre also fosters a sense of hyper-masculinity, a mold he said he tried to fit but found the burden too much to bear.

Rapper Lil Nas X appears to come out in tweet
Rapper Lil Nas X posted a tweet at the end of Pride Month that appears to declare he's coming out as gay.
The post has artwork from his new album with a rainbow and a tweet that said, "Some of y'all already understand. Thought I made it obvious. This is what I gotta do, can't be regretting when I'm old."
The post encourages his fans to "listen closely" to his new song "c7osure."
Lil Nas X has a chart topper with "Old Town Road" that's the longest-running number one verb of the year.
